Financial Access Specialist
Job Description
- Completes efficient and orderly pre-registration, insurance verification and appropriate payment arrangements for all scheduled inpatients and outpatients.
- Provides an explanation of MedStar point of service collections as an element of good customer service.
- During the pre-registration process, discusses what copays, deductibles and coinsurance are due for the patient's visit, and arranges for payment of copays, deductibles and coinsurance to ensure an expedient solution to financial issues. May need to negotiate payment arrangements.
- Provides consistent communication regarding payment arrangement information to the registration staff for collection. Ensures that accurate information is collected and that patients are aware of their rights.
- Demonstrates dependability, self-management, initiative, creativity and problem solving abilities that improve the quality and efficiency of the department.
- Completes verification process for MedStar North and WHC to include preregistrations (calling patients to verify their demographics), precollects, securing benefits, authorizations, and patient liability.
- Works closely with the hospital Utilization Review departments to identify accounts by flagging and using the error tracking process of insurance changes to assure maximum reimbursement.
- Works in a team environment.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- 1 year experience in patient accounting or related healthcare field, or an equivalent combination of experience and college education in Accounting, Finance or Healthcare Administration.
- Previous experience in customer service positions preferred.
- Detailed working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in at least one specific payers application billing, customer service, and/or collection process.
- Requires basic working knowledge of UB04 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
- Requires some knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/IDC-9 coding.
- Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proficient uses of hospital registration and/or billing systems and personal computers as well as Microsoft Excel and Word applications.
- Ability to type 35 WPM.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
